New Delhi: In Gujarat, six people died after being hit by Manja for two days (14-15 January) amidst the fun of kite festival. Eight people were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. There were incidents of people getting injured due to Manjha in many cities. So far 805 emergency calls have been registered. However, compared to last year, there has been a decrease in emergency cases this year.
In Gujarat, once again the string of kites turned out to be a string of death. On the day of Makar Sankranti, four people died after being hit by a Manjha in Surat. At the same time, in Piludra village of Jambusar, Bharuch, a young man died after his throat was cut by a kite string. The neck of a young man traveling on a bike was cut by a manja. The injured youth was admitted to the hospital for treatment, but he died during treatment.
Minor dies due to throat slit by manja
On the other hand, in Aravalli, a minor died after his throat was slit by a kite string. A 17-year-old boy named Teerth, who was driving a moped in Choila village of Bayad, had his throat cut by a manjha. The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Father and son injured while riding bike
At the same time, near Dawada in Panchmahal, a bike rider got injured due to the string of a kite. A young man going from home to Halol was seriously injured after being hit with a manja on his face, after which he was referred to Halol and later to Vadodara. On the other hand, a bike rider also met with an accident on Ganadevi Road in Navsari. The father and son were passing by on a bike when they were hit by a bicycle, due to which the father suffered a deep cut on his nose and ear.
Manjha took the lives of 4 in Surat
The festival of Uttarayan (Makar Sankranti) has brought mourning in many families. In Surat, 4 people lost their lives in separate accidents due to kite strings. In Surat, husband, wife and daughter of a family died after falling from a bridge, while a young man died after a rope got stuck around his neck.
Bike fell under the bridge due to kite string getting stuck
A shocking accident took place on the bridge connecting Wade Road and Adajan in Surat. 35 year old Rehan was returning from Subhash Garden with his wife and 7 year old daughter Ayesha. Rehan lost his balance when the kite string got stuck. All three members fell from the bridge after the bike collided with the divider. In this terrible accident, Rehan and innocent Ayesha died on the spot. His wife Rehana fell on the rickshaw parked below and died during treatment in the hospital.
A terrible accident also happened in Vesu area of Surat due to Manjha. A 23-year-old youth was passing on his moped in Lal Ghoda area when the string of a kite got stuck around his neck. The young man died tragically on the spot due to serious injuries and excessive bleeding.
