Fire broke out due to explosion of hundreds of smartphones, forensic team revealed

Amravati: A shocking revelation has come to light during the investigation of the Kurnool bus accident. Preliminary investigation by the forensic team found that a large number of smartphones were kept in the luggage cabin of the bus in which the massive explosion occurred. Due to this the fire flared up further. 19 passengers died tragically in this accident.

Preliminary investigation by the forensic team found that hundreds of mobile phones were kept in the luggage cabin of the Vemuri Kaveri travel bus that caught fire near Chinnatekur on the outskirts of Kurnool. Due to the explosion the fire flared up further. Due to this there was heavy loss of life. First of all, as soon as the bus hit the two-wheeler, the oil tank lid burst and petrol started leaking.

Meanwhile, the two-wheeler got stuck under the bus and the bus dragged it for some distance. Meanwhile, sparks came out and then the petrol caught fire. Due to this, the first fire started in the luggage cabin. More than 400 smartphones were kept in this parcel. The phone’s batteries burst due to the intense heat. Due to this the fire broke out and spread to the upper part of the luggage cabin.

As a result, people sitting on the seats and berths just above the luggage cabin did not get time to escape. The forensic team that investigated the incident site and the burnt bus said that this was the reason why most of the people sitting on the front seats and berths of the bus lost their lives.

Loud sound due to battery exploding

When the smartphone batteries started exploding simultaneously in the luggage cabin, there was a loud noise. Due to this, the driver stopped the bus, came out from the window near his seat and ran away leaving the passengers trapped in the bus. The bus was already surrounded by thick smoke and flames. Although the passengers trapped inside the bus tried to get out, their efforts went in vain as the emergency door on the right side did not open.

Goods were being transported against the rules

Apart from your personal belongings, any other item should not be transported in passenger vehicles. But owners of private travel buses are using passenger vehicles to carry goods. They transport commercial goods by keeping them in the bus cabin. In case of an accident, fire increases the severity of the accident.

In the Kurnool incident also, it was initially found that the explosion of the mobile phone was the reason for increasing the severity of the accident. Usually the upper part of a mobile phone is made of plastic and the batteries are made of lithium. Plastic burns within a few seconds. If lithium catches fire, it explodes. Despite knowing this, keeping them in passenger vehicles became the main reason for such a huge loss of life.
