Air India plane made emergency landing, bird hit immediately after takeoff

New Delhi: Air India plane going from Nagpur to Delhi had to make emergency landing. The plane had to be relanded a few minutes after take off. After the bird collided with the plane immediately after takeoff, it had to be immediately landed at Nagpur Airport. No one was harmed in this incident.

The Air India aircraft had successfully taken off from Nagpur runway. But as the altitude increased, it collided with a bird near the engine or wing. Bird strikes usually occur during takeoff or landing, when birds fly around the airport. The pilot immediately decided to perform manual return to origin (RTO). This was under the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which is as per the rules of DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation).

Let us tell you that the SOP says that after a bird strike, it is necessary to get the aircraft checked on the ground immediately, so that there is no engine damage or other problem. The pilot informed ATC (Air Traffic Control) and made preparations for a safe landing. The plane landed back at Nagpur airport without any problem. It was a normal landing. There were no injuries to the passengers.

This incident happened on 24th October. Flight AI466 from Nagpur to Delhi collided with a bird soon after takeoff. Air India spokesperson said in a statement that as per standard operating procedure, the crew decided to bring the aircraft back to Nagpur as a precautionary measure so that the aircraft can be inspected. The aircraft landed safely in Nagpur and was inspected, which required additional time for repairs, resulting in the flight being cancelled. Air India said that this decision was taken to ensure safety and to provide immediate assistance to avoid inconvenience to passengers.
