Nails indicate the internal health of our body: Ayurveda

London. In Ayurveda, nails have been called the mirror of the body, because from their color, texture and shape it can be ascertained whether there is any problem within the body. Often people consider nails only as a symbol of the beauty of hands, but in reality nails also indicate the internal health of our body.
Nails are composed primarily of keratin and cuticle. Keratin is a type of protein that makes up hair and skin tissue and protects the top layer of nails. It strengthens the nails and helps in quick healing of wounds after injury. At the same time, the cuticle works to keep the nails attached to the skin and prevents bacteria and fungus from entering inside. It is also called the “bodyguard” of nails and skin. Nails not only enhance the beauty of hands but also provide protection to the fingers. This protects the upper surface of the fingers from injury and infection and strengthens their grip.
Due to this we are able to lift heavy or hard objects easily. The condition of nails sometimes indicates ongoing problems within the body. For example, if nails are turning yellow, it could be a sign of fungal infection or liver problems. Whitening of nails indicates deficiency of blood, vitamin B12 and folic acid in the body. At the same time, sudden lines forming on the nails indicate hormonal disorders like thyroid. It is important to consult a doctor if such symptoms appear, because it can be an early sign of a serious health problem. Nail care does not require very complicated measures. They can be kept healthy and beautiful at home with some easy home remedies.
Making a mixture of lemon and olive oil and massaging the nails and keeping them immersed in it for some time removes yellowness of the nails. At the same time, regular application of coconut or almond oil strengthens the nails. Not only external care, but proper eating habits are also equally important for the health of nails. In Ayurveda, nails are considered connected to bones. When bones become weak, nails start breaking. Therefore, adequate amounts of calcium and vitamin D should be included in the diet. Adequate amount of Vitamin D helps in the absorption of calcium in the body, due to which the nails remain strong and do not break quickly.
