
Desk: Due to Cyclone Montha, the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will be greatly affected. Before its arrival, many relief centers have been set up in Chennai. Now in view of the storm, a total of 32 flights operating from Visakhapatnam Airport were canceled on Tuesday.
According to the report, Visakhapatnam Airport Director N. Purushottam said that on October 27, two flights of Air India Express were cancelled. “We are operating 30 to 32 flights every day, including both domestic and international. Today all those flights have been cancelled,” he said. He said the airport has taken precautions as per the guidelines of the Indian Visakhapatnam Authority to respond to the severe cyclonic storm, including the pre- and post-cyclonic phase.
Similarly, Vijayawada airport canceled 16 flights, but operated five flights. Vijayawada Airport Director Laxmikant Reddy said, “Yesterday (Monday) only one flight to Visakhapatnam was cancelled, but today 16 flights to many places across the country including Delhi and Mumbai were cancelled.”
According to Reddy, the airlines have decided to suspend operations for Tuesday. He said that the situation regarding operation of Wednesday’s flights may become clear by evening. Similarly, four flights were canceled at Tirupati airport. Meanwhile, a railway official said that a total of 120 trains were canceled in the South Central Railway zone on October 27 and Tuesday.
Let us tell you that in view of Cyclone Montha, NDRF has deployed 45 teams of rescue personnel for relief and rescue operations. Montha will mainly affect coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and due to this, heavy rains are expected in Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.
