Washington. US President Donald Trump does not shy away from praising himself. During his visit to Asia, while talking to reporters on Air Force One, he has openly hinted at the possibility of a third term in the 2028 presidential election. When asked about his former White House strategist Steve Bannon’s suggestion that Trump should unconstitutionally seek a third term, Trump replied with a smile, “I would love to do that.” Best grades I’ve ever had. However, he also quickly clarified that he hasn’t really thought about it yet. This statement gives new life to the long standing speculation of Trump, where he has repeatedly revived the fantasy of contesting elections for the third time in violation of the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution.
Trump also shed light on the future leaders of the Republican Party during the conversation. He said that there are very good people in the party who can prove to be strong contenders in the 2028 elections. Specifically, he named Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. “We have great people… Marco is great,” Trump said, laughing. And JD is great – I don’t think anyone would run against these two. If these two come together, it will be invincible, he added. Rubio, who was standing behind Trump in the plane’s cabin, bowed his head shyly, while Trump added more emphasis when he heard Vance’s name. This statement further intensifies the succession race in the Republican Party, where Trump loyalists are still hoping for his long rule.
According to the report, Trump’s close aide Steve Bannon recently claimed in his podcast that a plan is ready under which Trump can contest elections for the third time. However, the US Constitution does not allow any president to hold office for more than two terms. After a successful tour in Malaysia, Trump has reached Tokyo (Japan), which is the second leg of his Asia tour. Before leaving Kuala Lumpur he waved farewell to Malaysian officials and citizens. Trump wrote on Truth Social, Just leaving Malaysia, a wonderful and energetic country. Signed major trade and rare earth deals, and most importantly, signed a peace treaty between Thailand and Cambodia. No more war! Millions of lives were saved. It’s an honor for me to do this.
