BSF and RPF caught smuggler with gold worth Rs 30 lakh

Border Security Force (BSF) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a smuggler with gold worth Rs 30 lakh in West Bengal’s Nadia district, near Kolkata. BSF jawans of 194 battalion had received intelligence that a plan to smuggle gold was being planned. Based on this information, the joint team of both the agencies conducted a special operation at Bankim Nagar Railway Station.

At around 3.10 pm, an Indian civilian matching the appearance described in the intelligence report arrived at the station. As soon as he went from the bike parking to the platform and returned, the soldiers caught him. During the search, 251.7 grams of gold and two smartphones were recovered from him. The price of gold was estimated at approximately Rs 30,32,985.

During interrogation, the accused told that he had received a call in the afternoon and he was told that a packet would be received at the station. He had to give this gold to two local goldsmiths and take cash in return. The accused has been handed over to the concerned department for further action, while other people involved in the racket are being traced from his mobile data.

The BSF officer appreciated the promptness of the soldiers and cooperation with the RPF. He appealed to the people of the border area to share information related to smuggling on ‘Seema Sathi’ helpline 14419 or WhatsApp number 9903472227. Those providing reliable information will be rewarded appropriately and their identities will be kept confidential.
