Thimphu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Bhutan on a two-day visit. PM Modi was given a grand welcome at the airport of Bhutan’s capital Thimphu. During this period many senior ministers and top officials of the Bhutan government were present. PM Modi will be on Bhutan tour on 11-12 November. This visit will strengthen bilateral relations. Prime Minister Modi will also attend the 70th birthday celebrations of Bhutan’s fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. PM Modi expressed grief over Delhi blast in Bhutan.
PM Modi spoke on Delhi blast in Bhutan
Addressing an event in Bhutan, Prime Minister Modi expressed grief over the Delhi blast incident. He said that ‘Delhi blast distressed everyone. The entire country stands with the victims’ families and whoever is behind this blast will not be spared and the investigating agencies will get to the bottom of it. The Prime Minister said that he remained in touch with the investigating agencies throughout the night.
‘This visit will give new life to bilateral relations’
Earlier, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay welcomed Prime Minister Modi at Paro Airport in Thimphu. Tobgay wrote in a post shared on social media that ‘I join the entire country in welcoming my elder brother Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bhutan.’ In a statement before leaving for the visit, the Prime Minister said, ‘I am confident that my visit will deepen the bonds of our friendship and strengthen our efforts towards shared progress and prosperity.’ The Prime Minister said, ‘Our partnership is a main pillar of our ‘Neighborhood First Policy’ and a model of excellent friendly relations between neighboring countries.’ The Prime Minister said that this visit will give new life to our bilateral relations.
Will inaugurate Punatsangchhu-2 Hydroelectric Project
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold meetings with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tobgay. Prime Minister Modi and King Wangchuck of Bhutan will together inaugurate the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project jointly developed by India and Bhutan. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday that the purpose of this visit is to strengthen the special relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi’s visit is also coinciding with the display of the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha, which have been sent from India to Bhutan.
