His wife Afsan is also an officer in the Air Force. Both have a five year old daughter. The martyr Wing Commander’s father is a retired army officer. After serving in the army, Syal’s father became the principal in the Himachal Pradesh Education Department. When this accident happened, Syal’s mother Beena Devi was in Hyderabad.
