Cyclonic storm Ditvaha hits, red alert regarding heavy rain in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra

Hyderabad: Cyclonic storm Ditwah is going to make landfall this morning. Its biggest impact is going to be on the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. In view of the storm, the government has made extensive preparations for relief and rescue. The government is monitoring it. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding heavy rain in some parts. According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm Ditwah formed over the south-west Bay of Bengal is moving north at a speed of seven kilometers per hour. This has created a serious threat to the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining southern Andhra Pradesh. The storm is expected to move north-northwestwards from Sri Lanka and reach the southwest Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast by this morning. The Meteorological Department has warned that the cyclone will enter Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast by midnight today, tomorrow morning and evening at a speed of 25 to 60 kilometers per hour. Heavy rain is expected at many places. In this, very heavy rain may occur at some places in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Chengalpattu and Puducherry-Karaikal areas. There is a possibility of heavy rain in other districts including Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Ranipet, while some areas of Vellore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul and Theni may also receive heavy rain. The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay indoors, avoid coastal areas and follow the instructions of the local administration. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea near the affected coasts. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka said on Saturday that Chetak helicopters conducted rescue operations for people affected by Cyclone Ditvaha in Sri Lanka.
