Itanagar. A tragic accident occurred on Thursday in Anjav district of Arunachal Pradesh. A truck carrying laborers on Haiuliang-Chaglagam Indo-China border road suddenly lost balance and fell into a deep gorge. There were 21 laborers in the truck and according to initial information, 17 laborers have died. Seeing the seriousness of the accident, the district administration immediately sent relief and rescue teams. This incident happened on 8th December.
Anjav Deputy Commissioner Miloš Kozin confirmed that the accident occurred on a very dangerous mountain bend. He told that the road is very narrow and the slope is very steep in many parts. The workers in the truck were going for the ongoing border road construction work in this area.
After the accident, nearby villagers first reached the spot and started helping. Later, teams of police, district administration, disaster management and army started the rescue. Because the ditch is very deep, rescue is becoming difficult. Many workers have been seen trapped below in the ditch and it is taking time to reach them. Local officials said the truck was badly damaged and bodies of several workers were found in different parts of the ditch.
This area is known for its difficult geographical conditions. Workers working on road projects related to the Indo-China border have to pass through extremely dangerous roads every day. Many times bad weather, landslides and narrow roads cause accidents. Officials said the incident would be investigated to find out whether the truck was speeding or road conditions were the reason.
