Aviation Minister flags off first flight of light helicopter, Dhruv-NG

Bengaluru. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Tuesday inaugurated the next generation helicopter Dhruv-NG at Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). HAL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. DK Sunil was also present on this occasion. Naidu flagged off the maiden flight of the advanced light helicopter, Dhruv-NG, a civil version of the indigenous helicopter that HAL had showcased at the 2025 Aero India Show.
According to HAL, Dhruv-NG is a 5.5 tonne lightweight, twin-engine, multi-role helicopter designed to meet the diverse and challenging requirements of the Indian terrain. It is specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of the global civil aviation market. It is designed for superior safety, performance and passenger comfort. This helicopter is a milestone in indigenous rotary-wing capability. Dhruv-NG is equipped with two Shakti 1H1C engines, which provide high power ratings and enable in-house maintenance in India.
HAL said it is fitted with a civil-certified glass cockpit conforming to AS4 standards and a modern avionics suite for better situational awareness. It has an advanced vibration control system specially designed for VIP and medical transport and provides a smooth flying experience. According to HAL, Dhruv-NG has a maximum take-off weight of 5,500 kg and can reach a top speed of 285 kmph. It can carry a maximum of 14 passengers.
