There are reports of clashes between security forces and protesters, in which many people are reported to have been killed. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump continues to warn about the unrest in Iran.
Donald Trump’s warning amid violence
Donald Trump said on Friday (02 January) that the United States is fully prepared to retaliate if Iranian authorities use violence against peaceful protesters. Trump wrote in a post on social media, “If Iran opens fire on peaceful protesters and kills them brutally, which is their habit, the United States will come to their aid. We are fully prepared.”
Seven people have died so far amid protests
So far seven people have died amid the ongoing protests in Iran. This demonstration, which started in the capital Tehran, has reached rural areas along with other cities. The protesters have blocked many roads. Thousands of people have taken to the streets. The demonstration began with shopkeepers in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, which gradually grew into a nationwide demonstration.
