
New Delhi. Despite the departure of monsoon in South India, the rains do not seem to be stopping. A warning of torrential rain has been issued in many districts of Kerala during the next 72 hours. In view of the possibility of high waves in the sea and increase in wind speed, the administration has strictly advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea. The weather patterns have changed in Tamil Nadu also. There will be dense clouds in many coastal areas including Chennai and there are chances of heavy rain. Apart from this, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rains in Union Territories like Puducherry and Karaikal, which can lead to waterlogging in the low-lying areas. Due to once again a major change in the weather of the country, on one hand, the plains of North India are in the grip of severe cold wave and severe cold, on the other hand, there is a possibility of heavy rains in many states of South and North-East India for the next three days. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, due to the activation of various weather systems, a period of rain, strong winds and snowfall in hilly areas is about to begin in different parts of the country.
The impact of the weather is going to be quite profound in the hilly states also. There is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, while the lower areas may receive light to moderate rain. Due to this snowfall and rain, the temperature in the plains adjacent to the mountains will fall further, which will further increase the severity of cold. In view of the danger of slippage and landslides on the roads, passengers have been asked to take extra caution. An alert has also been issued in other parts of the south like coastal Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for strong winds with speed of 40 to 50 km per hour and heavy rain for the next three days. There is a possibility of lightning along with rain in Arunachal Pradesh of North-East India, while a warning has been given about heavy rain in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Meteorological Department has appealed to the general public to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and follow the instructions of the local administration. In particular, farmers have been advised to keep the harvested crops in safe places so that they can be protected from damage.
