Suspense on presentation of budget on 1st February, budget session of Parliament will start from 28th January

New Delhi. The doubt regarding the dates of the upcoming budget session of Parliament has now completely ended. According to the official proposal approved by the government, the budget session of the year 2026 will start from January 28 and continue till April 2. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed through social media platform X that this session will be organized in two phases. The first phase of the session will start from January 28 and will continue till February 13. After this there will be a recess, so that the parliamentary committees can study the budget proposals in detail. The second phase of the session will resume on March 9 and will conclude on April 2. As per tradition, on the first day of the session the President will address the joint sitting of both the Houses, after which the Economic Survey will be laid on the Table of the House.
However, despite the announcement of the session dates, the situation regarding Budget Day is still not clear. Usually the general budget of the country is presented on 1st February, but this time as 1st February is a Sunday, the market of speculations is hot. The exact date of presenting the budget has not yet been mentioned in the government notification. If we look at the past pattern, the budget has been presented the day after the President’s address. The first phase mainly involves discussing the motion of thanks and preliminary details of the budget. Whereas, in the second phase, the Finance Bill is passed after detailed debate on the grant demands of various ministries. Now all eyes are on whether the government will start a new tradition of presenting the budget on Sunday or there will be a change in the date.
