What is transit visa?

Transit visa is a short-term permit used by travelers when passing through a country. For example when passengers pass through a layover in a country to reach their destination. For this visa, proof of onward travel has to be presented. Also, it is important to show in the documents that you have not come to that country with the intention of staying for a long time.

What does it mean for Indians?

After this announcement of merger, Indians traveling to any other country via German airports will not have to take transit visa. Earlier, Indian citizens had to obtain a Schengen transit visa while travelling. The special thing is that travelers had to take transit visa even if they were not going to Germany or the Schengen area. After this decision, the path of Indians traveling through Germany will become easier. However, travelers planning to visit Germany will still need to obtain a tourist, business or student visa.
