
New Delhi. Weather will change in North India today. There is a possibility of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall may occur over Kashmir Valley, higher reaches of Himachal and Uttarakhand on January 23. There will be light to moderate rain in Punjab on January 23. Scattered rain is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan on January 23 and in East Uttar Pradesh on January 23-24. There is a possibility of thunderstorm and lightning with strong winds of 40-60 km/hour in these areas. Hailstorm is also possible in Himachal, Uttarakhand, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, North Rajasthan on January 23.
A warning of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall at some places has also been issued in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala between January 23 and 26. The minimum temperature will fluctuate by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next few days in North-West, Central India, Maharashtra and Gujarat, while there will be no major change in the rest of the country. From 24 to 26 January, dense to very dense fog may occur in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh and Rajasthan in the morning and night. Cold day conditions will prevail at some places in Himachal and Uttarakhand on January 23. Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea from January 23 to 27.
Severe cold continues in Punjab and Haryana
Severe cold continued in many parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday. During this period, the minimum temperature in Hoshiarpur was recorded at 3.3 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, Hoshiarpur was the coldest place in Punjab. Severe cold conditions persisted in Amritsar too, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.4 degrees Celsius while in Bathinda it was 5 degrees Celsius. Bhiwani in the neighboring state of Haryana also experienced severe cold, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Karnal was 4.4 degrees Celsius while in Hisar it remained at 4.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh, the joint capital of both the states, was recorded at 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Snowfall in Gulmarg and other areas of Kashmir
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg and some other areas of Kashmir valley received snowfall on Thursday. Strong winds lashed Srinagar and other plains. Snowfall started in Gulmarg of Baramulla district of North Kashmir from late Thursday evening. This snowfall occurred due to the impact of a powerful western disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir. A few inches of fresh snow has accumulated in Gulmarg, but till last reports came in, moderate snowfall was continuing. Other areas of Kupwara, Baramulla and Shopian, especially the higher reaches, also received snowfall. The Meteorological Department had said that there is a possibility of widespread light to moderate rain/snow including the plains of the valley. Heavy rain may also occur at some places.
