According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain in many districts of the state and snowfall in areas at a height of more than 2800 meters. This forecast has brought relief to the people, who were waiting for rain and snowfall for a long time.
According to the Meteorological Center, there may be light rain and snowfall in different parts of the state from January 22 to January 27. There will be light rain in the plains, while good snowfall may be seen in the higher reaches. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for January 23. During this period, warning of heavy snowfall has been issued in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts.
On Wednesday, after light fog in the morning, there was bright sunshine in Dehradun and surrounding areas. The sunshine definitely gave people relief from the cold for some time, but the weather also felt a little hot during the day. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 7.7 degrees. The minimum temperature in Udham Singh Nagar was 3.3 degrees, while the night temperature in Mukteshwar and New Tehri was recorded at 2.5 and 3.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall may increase further in higher altitude areas on January 23. There is a possibility of closure of roads due to heavy snowfall in hilly areas at an altitude of more than 2800 meters. In view of this, the Meteorological Department has advised the state government to be alert and deploy snow removal machines in advance.
People living in snowfall areas have been asked to be prepared for power supply disruption and drop in temperature. People have been advised to have alternative power arrangements and warm clothes. Also, caution has been asked while traveling in landslide prone areas.
Orange alert is an indication that the situation may be serious, as heavy snowfall may affect normal life and traffic. However, this snowfall will also bring natural beauty and enjoyment for the local people and tourists. Rain in the plains and snowfall in the mountains will provide relief from dry cold.
The Meteorological Center has confirmed that light rain and snowfall will continue in different parts of Uttarakhand till January 27. With this change in weather, people across the state are expected to get some relief from the cold.
