New Delhi. Employees working on gig and platforms have announced to protest across the country demanding their rights and security. According to the Gig and Platform Service Workers Union, the employees will go on online strike by shutting down the app on January 26, 2026. After this, there will be a demonstration on the streets on 3 February 2026. A large number of women gig workers will lead this movement.
According to the union, lakhs of gig workers in the country are associated with different app companies. These people work in many fields, from food delivery, household work to logistics. Despite this, they have not yet got the status of labour. They always have to face uncertainty of earnings and arbitrary policies of companies.
Most of the challenges faced by women workers
According to the union, women employees say that when they complain about such problems to companies, they often do not get correct and satisfactory answers. Many times, after complaining, their ID is blocked, due to which their livelihood is snatched away.
The biggest complaint of gig workers involves arbitrary ID blocking. He says that he is removed from work without any apparent reason. Because of this, their income suddenly stops and the livelihood of the family is in danger.
The union says that the systems like auto assign system, rating system and bundle booking adopted by the companies are not transparent and through this additional pressure is created on the workers. Additionally, income has become more volatile than ever due to frequent rate cuts and penalties.
