Death of 57 thousand laborers in MP creates panic, labor department alerted

The increasing number of normal and accidental deaths of unorganized workers registered under the Chief Minister Jan Kalyan Sambal Yojana has increased the concern of the Labor Department. In view of the huge expenditure being incurred on these deaths, the government has now decided to emphasize on prevention. Under this, special camps will be organized in all the districts to make workers aware about health and safety, which will be monitored by the Collector.

Rs 2 lakh is given on normal death

In Madhya Pradesh, unorganized workers in the age group of 18 to 60 years are registered under the Chief Minister Jan Kalyan Sambal Yojana. According to departmental data, last year 57 thousand normal deaths and about 5,800 accidental deaths were recorded among the registered workers in the state, in which benefits were distributed under the Sambal Yojana. The average age of the state is 67 years, but for deaths occurring before 60 years, under the scheme, assistance of Rs 2 lakh is given on normal death and Rs 4 lakh on accidental death.

Instructions issued to all collectors of the state

Due to benefits being given in more than 60 thousand cases every year, the expenditure on the scheme is continuously increasing. In view of this, the Labor Department has issued instructions to all the collectors that labor health and awareness camps should be organized in the districts. These camps will be organized in industrial areas, construction sites, brick kilns, factories and agro-based workplaces. Camps will be organized along with monthly Gram Sabha and Ward Sabhas and information on matters related to Anugrah Sahayata Yojana can also be included in the subject list of Gram Sabha.

Strictness on workplace safety

Instructions have also been given for strict compliance with safety standards to prevent accidents at workplaces. Use of all necessary safety equipment including helmets, safety belts, gloves, masks will be compulsorily ensured in factories and construction sites. Along with this, workers will also be made aware about road safety and safe transportation.

Regular health checkups and coordination

Workers will be subjected to regular health check-ups like BP, sugar, BMI and cardiac risk. High-risk workers will be identified and provided timely medical consultation. For this, a joint action plan will be prepared in each district in coordination between the Labor Department, Health Department, Police, Transport Department and local administration.

Instructions have also been given to the collectors to analyze the causes of deaths in the working age group and conduct a monthly review on the measures to prevent them. The government believes that preventive health measures and safety awareness will reduce the death rate of workers and the increasing expenditure on Sambal Yojana will also be controlled.
