Battle over Chaitanya Baghel’s bail in Supreme Court, hearing to be held next week

Chhattisgarh The Supreme Court will hear the government’s petition after a week. Chhattisgarh government has challenged the bail granted to Chaitanya Baghel in the alleged liquor scam case. Chaitanya is the son of former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel. Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani appeared for the Chhattisgarh government before the bench comprising Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and NV Anjaria. He told the bench that after Chaitanya Baghel got bail, not a single important witness in the case is coming forward. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also separately challenged the bail of Chaitanya Baghel in the money laundering case related to it. The bench said that the matter will be heard after a week. The Supreme Court also heard a separate petition by Soumya Chaurasia, who was the deputy secretary of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Soumya Chaurasia was arrested by the ED in December last year in the alleged liquor scam case. Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Soumya Chaurasia, said that the Supreme Court has already granted her bail in other cases. Now they again filed a fresh FIR and arrested him in December. This is the sixth time he has been arrested. On this, the bench asked Soumya Chaurasia to approach Chhattisgarh High Court for bail.
