The deadline is ending today, the final voter list will be released on February 17.

Desk. Tuesday is the last day for Tamil Nadu voters to make corrections related to the state’s revised voter list. With the deadline ending on Tuesday evening, officials are hopeful that all the pending verification work will be completed before the publication of the final voter list on February 17. Once finalized, the updated voter list is expected to show around 5.65 crore registered voters in Tamil Nadu.

The process began with the publication of the draft voter list on December 19 after extensive ground verification by booth-level officials. After the release of the draft list, citizens were given time till January 30 to lodge objections, request corrections or apply for inclusion of their names through the online portal and special camps organized in the districts.

Officials said around 34 lakh people submitted applications to change, add or delete their names. These included first-time voters, people changing residence and others seeking corrections in personal information such as name, address or photo. Meanwhile, officials marked several entries for deeper scrutiny.

Notices were issued to about 12 lakh voters whose names were in the draft list but who had not submitted the required supporting documents. They were asked to submit proof of identity and eligibility within the prescribed time limit. Election officials have now intensified ground investigation and document collection to ensure that all such cases are resolved before today’s deadline ends. The ECI has directed the staff to complete the scrutiny expeditiously so that only eligible voters are included in the final list.
