Pakistan has got a good start in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team has won both its opening matches. In the first match, it defeated Netherlands in a tough match. Then in the second match America was defeated by 32 runs. However, after the victory against America, Pakistan captain Salman Aga said something due to which he got trolled. Answering a question, Agha said that we are Pakistanis and do different things from the world. After this statement, fans trolled this statement by linking it to the boycott decision. Actually, before the start of T20 World Cup, Pakistan had created a lot of drama. His government had decided to boycott the match against India to be held in Colombo on 15 February. However, within nine days the Pakistan government took a U-turn and announced to play the match against India. Due to this U-turn, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif were trolled a lot. Now Salman Aga has also brought disgrace to Pakistan by making such a statement.
What is the whole matter?
Pakistan defeated America by 32 runs and avenged the defeat in T20 World Cup 2024. After this Agha looked very happy. However, he said that the team’s performance was good but some improvements were needed. Asked about his facial expressions after his victory, he jokingly said, ‘I always smile.’ When have you not seen me smile? (laughing). It was a clinical victory. In the last match, we did not bat well in the middle overs, but in this match we made up for that shortcoming. As soon as we scored 190, we knew we could defend it.
‘We are Pakistan…’
Agha said that if he had won the toss, he would have decided to bat first. He said that he has full confidence in his bowling and he has the strength to defend a good target. Agha said, ‘I would have decided to bat first even after winning the toss. With the kind of bowling we have, we know we can win even by scoring 160-170 runs. We are Pakistanis, we do things different from the world.
‘Easy to chase’
Despite his choice, the captain made it clear that Pakistan are equally comfortable chasing the target. Emphasizing the flexibility of the batting order, he said, ‘We are comfortable in chasing also. Our batting order is quite flexible. The first three batsmen will probably come in the same order, but after that we can make changes according to the situation.
Next clash with India
Explaining the depth and versatility of the lineup, Agha said that the team has options with which they can play according to different match conditions, without compromising their intent. He expressed satisfaction with the performance, but also reiterated that the team is not complacent yet and there remains room for improvement as the tournament progresses. Now Pakistan has to play a match against India in Colombo on 15th February.
‘We have good finishers’
He said, ‘If not many wickets fall in the beginning then we have such finishers who can come quickly and score runs. But even if early wickets fall, we still have a batsman who can take the innings deep and then give the finishers a chance to finish the match. There is always room for improvement. We like to bowl well in the power-play. We were good in some parts, but we can be more clinical.
