MLAs were seen waving weapons, political temperature increased with the reel made on ‘Dhurandhar’

New Delhi. There has been an uproar in political and social circles after a video of Congress MLA Matin Patel allegedly dancing with weapons surfaced during a family function in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka. This reel, which is becoming increasingly viral on social media, has not only raised questions on the MLA’s style of functioning but has also sparked debate about the increasing gun culture in public events.
In the viral video clip, Mateen Patel is seen getting down from a black SUV. After this, he is seen dancing on a song from the film Dhurandhar with an object that looks like a pistol in his hand. In the video, some of his supporters are also seen holding objects like guns. As soon as this clip spread on social media platforms, people started strongly criticizing it, calling it irresponsible. Many users raised the question that this kind of demonstration does not suit the public representatives and it sends a wrong message to the society.

When the matter gained momentum, MLA Matin Patel gave clarification. He said the object seen in the video was not a real weapon but a toy gun. According to him, it was a private family event and he performed dressed as a character from the film at the request of the children. Patel says that the video is being presented in wrong context and the police has already questioned him in this regard.

However, after the controversy escalated, the police have started a formal investigation. Kalaburagi city police commissioner Sharanappa SD said officials have been directed to verify whether the weapons shown in the video were genuine or not. It is also being investigated at which place the video was shot and under which police station that area falls.

The Police Commissioner clarified that if the weapons are found to be genuine during the investigation, it will be seen whether they had a valid license or not and whether any rules or conditions were violated. If illegal weapons or rules are ignored, action will be taken under relevant sections. He also said that displaying weapons in public places is an offense under law and a detailed investigation will be conducted before reaching any conclusion.
