Guwahati: Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a public meeting in Guwahati, Assam, said that North East is Ashtalakshmi for us. This year’s budget is going to further strengthen the vision of BJP-NDA for Ashtalakshmi. This is my first visit to Assam and North East after the budget. We are devotedly serving the North East which was always ignored by the Congress. Congress has become more poisonous due to being out of power. Assam will have to be careful.
PM Modi said, there is a lot of focus in the budget on making the North East economically self-reliant. This time Assam is going to get about Rs 50 thousand crores in the form of tax incentives. How Assam was kept desperate for every penny during the time of Congress. You will remember that very well. During the time of Congress, Assam used to get only Rs 10 thousand crore as tax share.
Earlier people used to remember poor infrastructure
He said, now under the BJP government, Assam is getting 5 times more money than the Congress government. If we talk about the last 11 years, Assam has received more than Rs 5.50 lakh crore from the Central Government for various development projects. Earlier, whenever North East was mentioned, people were reminded of poor infrastructure. Today, such highways are being built here where not only vehicles can run, but airplanes can also land.
If policies improve, employment opportunities increase.
PM Modi said, this is a proud moment. This is the changing spirit of Assam. In this year’s budget, work has been done to further expand the policies for North East. If policies increase, employment opportunities also increase. Therefore, a decision has been taken to give thousands of crores of rupees to Assam for highway and other road projects.

The Prime Minister said, today is the anniversary of Pulwama attack. I salute the brave sons of Mother India who lost their lives in this attack. The whole world has seen the way India punished the terrorists after this terrorist attack. You have also seen this power of India in Operation Sindoor. During the time of Congress, 3G and 4G technology came, 2G scams also came, but Congress did not work hard to bring it quickly to North-East and Assam. When 5G technology came under the BJP government, we worked to take this technology to every village in the entire North-East including Assam.
