Ghaziabad. On the occasion of Phalgun Mahashivratri, special worship has been done in Shivalayas. Dudheshwarnath Mahadev Temple located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed special splendor on this day due to the huge crowd of devotees. It is believed that the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled just by applying here. The well present in the temple premises also remains a center of attraction.
According to media reports, an ancient well located in this temple complex is also a center of attraction for devotees. It is believed that the water of this well changes color three times a day. This well is located in the Ram Bhawan of the temple and around it, statues of many gods and goddesses including Ganesh-Lakshmi, Annapurna, Radha-Krishna are installed. On the day of Mahashivratri, devotees from far and wide come here and visit this miraculous well along with the temple.
According to folklore, this temple is very ancient and is related to the era of Lankapati Ravana. It is said that Vishwasravas, son of Pulastya Muni and father of Ravana, performed rigorous penance here. It is also believed that Ravana himself worshiped Lord Shiva at this place. Here the prestigious Hiranyagarbha Jyotirlinga is said to be situated about three and a half feet below in Swayambhu form. The Harnandi River flowing nearby is today known as the Hindon River.
The main entrance of the temple is carved out of a huge stone. The idol of Lord Ganesha has been carved in the middle of the same stone. According to local beliefs, this grand temple was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which further increases its historical importance.

There is also a famous story behind the name Dudheshwar Mahadev. It is said that the cows of nearby Kaila village used to reach a mound and start milking on their own. When the villagers excavated that place, Shivalinga appeared there. Due to being anointed with the milk of cows, it was named ‘Dudheshwar’ or ‘Dudheshwar’ Mahadev.
