Mamata Banerjee’s big bet on women’s safety before Bengal elections

Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stressed on strengthening the security of women before the upcoming elections. He has announced two new initiatives of Kolkata Police.

How will the all-women pink booth increase security?

The Chief Minister posted on the social media platform X that all-women pink booths will be set up at major intersections of the city, which will operate from evening to midnight. Women policemen deployed at these booths will be able to directly assist women and take immediate action on their complaints. He said that through these pink booths, women of the city will be able to directly contact women officers if needed, which will further increase confidence in security.

What will Shining Mobile Patrol Team do?

Apart from this, the Chief Minister also announced the deployment of all-women mobile patrolling teams named ‘Shining’. These teams will patrol from 8 pm to 2 am on EM Bypass and other major roads of the city, which are used by a large number of working women at night. Mamata Banerjee said that Kolkata has remained the safest city in the country for years and these two new initiatives will play an important role in further strengthening the security system of women. Detailed guidelines regarding deployment, operation and strategy of these initiatives are expected to be shared soon by Kolkata Police officials.
