New Delhi. America has offered India an alternative way to deal with the energy crisis arising due to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz. America has said that India can currently buy crude oil from Russia for 30 days, but Congress is furious over this American announcement. Congress has termed the exemption given by America as an attack on Indian sovereignty, rather it is criticizing the Central Government by saying that for how long will America continue to blackmail us like this.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted in Hindi on X and wrote – Trump’s new game, told Delhi friend, you can take oil from Putin, how long will this American blackmail last. Whereas Congress MP Manish Tiwari has even linked it to the sovereignty of the country. He also wrote on Twitter in response to US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant’s statement that issuing a 30-day moratorium is full of hypocritical language of pressure, neo-imperialist arrogance…Are we a banana republic that we need US permission to buy oil for ourselves? However, the silence of the government which talks a lot is a bit excessive. Does it not know what sovereignty means?
Earlier, the US Treasury Secretary had informed through X that the Treasury Department issues a temporary exemption for 30 days to Indian refiners to buy Russian oil.…This short-term measure will not give much financial benefit to the Russian government…India is an important partner of America and we are confident that New Delhi will increase the purchase of American oil…. Let us tell you that America took this decision amidst discussions being held with India on insurance cover for the safety of sea tankers carrying oil. The US government had even said that if necessary, its Navy would escort and rescue oil tankers passing through the Homurz Strait.
