
New Delhi: To give new heights to the infrastructure and transport system of the capital Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth about Rs 33,500 crore today i.e. on March 8. Before this main event to be held at around 12 noon, the Prime Minister will visit the newly constructed GPRA Type-5 houses in Sarojini Nagar and hand over the keys of their houses to the women allottees. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had approved the preparations for the function organized at Nirankari Ground in Burari on Saturday evening.
The Prime Minister will gift projects worth about Rs 18,300 crore of Delhi Metro. This includes the opening of two major corridors. The Pink Line from Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur (12.3 km) and the Magenta Line from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park (9.9 km) will become operational for the general public from today. With this expansion of the metro, the journey of lakhs of passengers of areas like Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk and Haiderpur Badli Mor will be easier.
Pink Line will become Ring Metro with the commencement of two new metro corridors: The length of the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur section is 12.3 kilometers and it has 8 elevated stations. This corridor is part of the already operated Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Pink Line. With the addition of this section, the total length of the Pink Line will be approximately 71.56 kilometers and Delhi will get the country’s first fully operational ‘Ring Metro’. There will be Majlis Park, Burari, Jharauda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Surghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur stations on this corridor.
The corridor from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park is part of the Magenta Line, which is 9.92 km long and has 7 elevated stations. This corridor is an extension of the already operated Botanical Garden-Krishna Park Extension Magenta Line. With its connection, the total length of the Magenta Line will be approximately 49 kilometers. There will be Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, North Pitampura-Prasant Vihar, Haiderpur Gaon, Haiderpur Badli Mod, Bhalswa and Majlis Park stations on this section. The construction of the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur corridor required the construction of a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct that houses a metro track and a road flyover. This is the fifth bridge of Delhi Metro on Yamuna river.
PM will lay the foundation stone of three corridors under the fifth phase of Metro: The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of three new corridors under Phase-V (A) of Delhi Metro, which will make the travel of Delhiites more convenient. These include Central Vista Corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Golden Line extension from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 and Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. The length of the Central Vista Corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha will be 9.913 kilometers and it will be built underground.
Rejuvenation of Government Housing (GPRA Redevelopment): There will be nine new stations in which R. Of. Ashram Marg (under construction), Shivaji Stadium, Yuge-Yugen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Dutva Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha Station. This corridor will provide metro connectivity to major sites like Dutya Bhawans, Bharat Mandapam and Yuge-Yugena Bharat Museum. The length of the Golden Line extension from Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1 will be 2.263 kilometers and will be built underground. There will be a new station and both the already operating stations will be connected. The length of the Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj will be 3.9 kilometers and it will be an elevated corridor. This will include Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar and Kalindi Kunj stations.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of housing projects worth about Rs 15,200 crore. Modern infrastructure has been created in areas like Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Srinivaspuri. The biggest feature of these projects is their self-financing model. The government has raised revenue by commercially exploiting a limited portion of the project, thereby creating 9,350 modern flats and 48 lakh square feet of office area without putting a burden on the public exchequer.
