Heavy rain disrupts life in many parts of Tamil Nadu

Chennai . In many parts of Tamilnadu, life got disrupted due to heavy rains (Heavy Rains have disrupted Normal Life). Heavy rains are occurring in Tamil Nadu amid the possibility of the deep depression formed in the south-west of the Bay of Bengal turning into a low pressure area.

The Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has issued weather alerts across the state, with warnings of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in many districts. According to the RMC, the weather system is currently located over the south-west Bay of Bengal and is likely to move west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts in the next 24 hours.

Officials said the system could become more powerful, and it would be clear only by tonight whether it could turn into a cyclonic storm or not. Amudha, head of the southern region of the meteorological department, said that this pressure area is expected to develop into a low pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal by this afternoon. “Its movement and intensity are being closely monitored. The next 12 hours will be crucial in determining whether it will turn into a cyclone or not,” he said.

Following the department’s forecast, a red alert has been issued for Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai districts, where extremely heavy rainfall is likely. Orange alert has been issued for 11 districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Karaikal, where very heavy rainfall is likely.

Meanwhile, the RMC has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Vellore, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri and Pudukottai districts. Heavy rain has been predicted in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Ranipet on Wednesday, while nearby districts like Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore and Puducherry are also likely to be affected.

RMC warned that moderate to heavy rain will continue for the next three hours in 14 districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Tirupattur and Vellore. Authorities have urged residents of low-lying and coastal areas to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel as the north-east monsoon intensifies across the region.
