Pune (Maharashtra): A court decision is being discussed in Pune. The court has acquitted a person in a theft case after 51 years. This case was registered in 1974. Three accused were accused of stealing a wrist watch, Rs 4 and a handkerchief.
After 51 years, the court has acquitted the accused due to lack of evidence. The court gave this decision due to lack of evidence and absence of witnesses.
What is the matter?
In 1974, a case of theft was registered at Bundgarden police station in Pune. In this case, a case was registered against Gulab Shahu Jadhav, Mukund Kerba Waghmare and Rajaram Tukaram Kale. Gulab Shahu Jadhav and Mukund Kerba Waghmare were convicted after confessing to the crime on April 10, 1975, while Rajaram Kale was absconding.
Despite being absconding for more than 51 years, due to lack of solid evidence, Pune First Class Judicial Magistrate NJ Chavan on December 26, 2025 canceled all warrants against Rajaram Kale and ordered his acquittal.
After assuming office, Judge Chavan started reviewing old and pending cases. Under the same, this case came to light and notices and warrants were again issued to the complainants and witnesses in this case. But, no one appeared in the court. Ultimately, despite being absconding for more than 50 years, due to lack of concrete evidence, the court canceled all the warrants against Rajaram Kale and ordered his acquittal.
