
FirozpurPunjab Police on Tuesday said it has busted a cross-border arms smuggling network with the arrest of two persons, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gori and Vikramjeet Singh alias Vicky, Firozpur police have recovered 6 Glock 9mm pistols, four magazines and four cartridges from the accused, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that accused Vikramjit Singh had direct links with a smuggler from Pakistan involved in illegal arms smuggling,” Yadav said in a post on social media platform
The DGP said that he has also confessed to supplying weapons to the local people on the instructions of his Pakistani masters. Gaurav Yadav said that his arrest also helped in unearthing an old case related to the purchase of an AK-47 rifle from the same cross-border network. Technical analysis of the seized digital devices is being done so that the entire supply chain of the weapons can be traced.
More than 23% voting in Punjab by-election in 4 hours
On the other hand, more than 23 percent voting was recorded till 11 am on Tuesday for the Tarn Taran assembly by-election in Punjab. Voting began at 7 am amid tight security arrangements and will continue till 6 pm, officials said. Despite the cold, voters were seen in queues since morning. Those who voted in the morning include Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj who came with his family to cast his vote. He appealed to the voters to come out of their homes and exercise their franchise and make the right party and candidate victorious. Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa along with her daughter Kanchanpreet Kaur reached the polling booth of Kaka Kandiala village to cast her vote. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu also voted.
