VaranasiSambhal Police on Monday took major action against a gang involved in fake insurance scam of more than Rs 100 crore in 12 states. Police attached properties worth Rs 11.89 crore of gangster Omkareshwar Mishra and his two associates located in Sambhal, Badaun, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Varanasi under the Gangster Act. This action was taken by the joint team of Police and Revenue Department on the orders of the District Magistrate. According to the police, property worth Rs 1.26 crore of Varanasi resident gang leader Omkareshwar Mishra Karan, Rs 9.18 crore of Sachin Sharma alias Monu of Babrala and Rs 1.45 crore of his brother Gaurav Sharma were attached. Rajpura police station had arrested Omkareshwar Mishra on the night of 18 January 2025. Investigation revealed that the gang embezzled an amount of more than Rs 100 crore by getting insurance done in the name of dead and sick people. Fake IAS officer caught at the border, was going to gamble in a casino in Nepal. Cases have been registered in many districts including Sambhal. Police investigation also found the gang’s links to cyber crime and other fraud networks. Cases are registered in many districts including Sambhal, Moradabad, Badaun, Etah. So far, more than 64 accused have been arrested and sent to jail. After the court order, attachment action was taken in Babrala and Varanasi. Police station incharge Saurabh Tyagi and Bahjoi Sant Kumar Singh reached Babrala along with the police force, where announcements were made by playing drums and the properties were sealed. In this case, ASP South Anukriti Sharma said that the property worth Rs 11.89 crore of two people, including the leader of the fake insurance gang, in Sambhal’s Babrala, Badaun, Noida and Varanasi has been attached on the orders of the DM. He is accused of Rs 100 crore insurance scam. On Saturday, Naubasta police attached the house of absconding associate of Akhilesh Dubey, Abhishek Bajpayee, who is in jail for being implicated in false rape cases and demanding extortion in Kanpur. Accused Abhishek is absconding after the report lodged by BJP leader Ravi Satija.
