Khanna said – Started political career with SAD, now returning home
Chandigarh. BJP has suffered a big setback in Punjab. Punjab unit vice president Arvind Khanna has joined Shiromani Akali Dal. Assembly elections are to be held in Punjab in the year 2027. There is Aam Aadmi Party government in the state. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday visited Khanna’s house in Sangrur, where he inducted the former MLA into the SAD. Badal said he was happy to welcome his friend to the SAD and appoint him in-charge of Sangrur assembly constituency. Khanna joined BJP in January 2022. He was elected MLA from Sangrur assembly constituency in 2002 and from Dhuri seat in 2012 on Congress ticket. Khanna had contested the 2022 assembly elections from Sangrur seat and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur parliamentary constituency on a BJP ticket, but lost.
Addressing a gathering after joining Shiromani Akali Dal, Khanna said that he started his political career with SAD and has returned home to rejoin the party. AAP MLA from Sangrur seat Narinder Kaur Bharaj had on Thursday claimed that BJP has offered her a ticket. He had taken the name of Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. However, Saini had denied the allegations. According to media reports, when journalists contacted Saini for comment on Bharaj’s claims, Saini said that I do not know her, nor do I know the constituency she represents. Earlier, Bharaj claimed that under BJP’s Operation Lotus, Saini tried to contact him and had also talked to him a few days ago. He claimed that Saini proposed a closed-door meeting.
