Big game in Pakistan, Asim Munir’s CDF appointment stuck, what is the story behind Shehbaz Sharif’s decision?

Pakistan Power Crisis: Everything is not going well between Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir and Shahbaz government. Former National Security Advisory Board member Tilak Deveshar claimed that Shehbaz Sharif had deliberately kept himself away from the process of appointing Munir as the first Chief of Defense Forces (CDF). Munir was to issue orders for formation of CDF by 29th November but Shahbaz government did not issue any notification regarding this. Rather Shahbaz went on a tour to London. Due to which a constitutional crisis arose over the appointment of Munir.

Deveshar claimed that Shehbaz Sharif first left for Bahrain and now London so that Shehbaz Sharif does not have to sign the order for Munir’s extension or CDF appointment. This is a well-planned conspiracy by the Prime Minister, so that the order does not have to be signed. Shahbaz also knows what its political and institutional consequences could be.

Tenure ended on 29 November
According to Deveshar, Asim Munir’s tenure ended on November 29. After this, a new army chief should be appointed immediately or a notification should be issued to extend the tenure of the existing one. If this is not done then technically Pakistan will not have any army chief. According to the new arrangement, the Nuclear Command Authority is also under the CDF. In such a situation, non-appointment is a very dangerous situation for Pakistan.

Army Chief’s tenure is 5 years
According to the Army Act amendment in Pakistan in 2024, the tenure of the Army Chief is for 5 years, there is no need for a new order for this. On the other hand, some people say that official notification is necessary for a new post like CDF. At present, the absence of Shehbaz Sharif in Pakistan has not only increased the political turmoil but has also raised many questions.
