
On the very first day of the new year 2026, political tension turned into violence in Karnataka’s Bellary district. According to Bellary Violence News, a clash broke out between Congress and BJP supporters over putting up posters and banners in Awambavi area, which soon escalated into firing and stone pelting. In this incident, Congress worker Rajashekhar died due to bullet injury, while many people including policemen were injured.
Controversy started due to banner installation
According to preliminary information, supporters of Congress MLA Nara Bharat Reddy were putting up banners on the road in front of the house of BJP MLA Janardhan Reddy. During this time an altercation started, which later turned into a violent clash. According to the police, stone pelting and firing took place between the two groups, causing chaos in the area.
Police action and section 144
As soon as information about the incident was received, police reached the spot and dispersed the crowd to control the situation. As a precaution, Section 144 has been imposed in the entire area. Police confirmed to Bellary Violence News that the situation is being monitored and additional forces have been deployed.
Leaders’ allegations and counter-allegations
Congress MLA Bharat Reddy alleged that the attack was carried out by supporters of BJP MLA Janardhan Reddy. Meanwhile, Janardhan Reddy hit back claiming that a conspiracy was hatched against him and firing was carried out deliberately in front of his house. He also alleged that an attempt was being made to incite riots in the city under the guise of the unveiling of Valmiki’s statue.
