Boiler explodes in cycle factory in Ludhiana, Punjab, worker dies, many injured

Ludhiana (Punjab): One worker died and others were injured in a boiler explosion at a bicycle parts factory in Ludhiana district on Saturday. This major accident occurred due to boiler explosion in Ajit Cycle Parts Factory behind United Cycle Parts Manufacturing Association located on Gill Road.

According to police officials, bicycle frames are painted in the factory. Workers were working in the factory at the time of the accident. A 60 year old laborer died.

Workers working in the factory told that “When this accident happened, they were working in the factory when suddenly there was an explosion. Two people survived the accident, but one died due to burning in the fire.”

The workers told that there is a painting factory, where bicycle parts are also made. He told that this accident happened due to the explosion of the furnace used to heat the paint. When the accident happened, 10 to 12 laborers were working near the furnace and they got affected by it. Many laborers were sent to the hospital for treatment.

However, the fire has been brought under control. How the furnace caught fire and how the explosion occurred has not been known. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shimlapuri said that many people have also been injured in the accident, who are being counted. He said that two fire brigade vehicles have brought the fire under control on the spot.

ACP said that the fire broke out around 7 pm and after that the fire was brought under control, but there was definitely one death in the accident. A senior police officer said that the deceased has been identified and his family members have also been informed.
