Guwahati. Ahead of the assembly elections in Assam, three sitting Congress MLAs Kamalakhya De Purkayastha, Shashikant Das and Basant Das joined the BJP. Former Congress joint secretary Parsha Bob Kalita and former Trinamool Congress general secretary Kankan Nath also joined the BJP on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Chief Minister clarified that these MLAs had been supporting the government for the last two years. Now he has formally joined the party without any conditions. Talking to the media, he said that today three Congress MLAs have joined our party. This is a big day for BJP. I am sure this shows the growing popularity of BJP and people’s respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
