Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, while talking on India-US trade deal on Wednesday, February 4, said in Parliament that this trade agreement is historic. There is no loss to Indian farmers due to this. Piyush Goyal has said this regarding reducing the tariff imposed by America on India. He said that after several rounds of discussions that lasted for a year, they were successful in finalizing the trade agreement. This agreement is very important in the direction of developing India. Piyush Goyal said, “Looking at the interests of both the sides, it is natural that both the sides would like to ensure the best outcome while protecting the important and sensitive sectors of their respective economies. The Indian side has been successful in ensuring the protection of the interests of its sensitive sectors, especially the agriculture and dairy sectors. The American side also had some sectors which were sensitive from their point of view. Its talks have continued for the last one year, in which after much discussion, a trade agreement was reached. This agreement provides significant benefits to India especially in the fertilizer and agricultural sectors.
The goal of ‘Make in India for the World’ will be accomplished
Speaking on the India-US trade deal in Parliament, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “I would like to reiterate to this honorable House that India’s sensitivities in the fertilizer and agriculture sector have been taken full account of. This agreement will provide new opportunities to small and medium traders, small and medium enterprises, industrialists, skilled workers and industries. This will ease access to advanced technologies and will help in India’s ‘Make in India for the World’, ‘Design in India for the World’ and “This will help in realizing the goals of ‘Innovate in India for the World’.”

Tariff will be 50 to 18 percent
On Monday, February 2, 2026, US President Donald Trump, while giving information on Truth Social, said that the 50 percent tariff imposed on India is being reduced to 18 percent. Piyush Goyal said that the tariffs imposed by America on many other countries have been reduced on India. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the interests of both the parties (India-America).
