Mumbai Russian citizen Alexei Leonov, arrested for the murder of two Russian women in Goa, has made a very shocking claim. 37-year-old Leonov told during police interrogation that he had killed 19 Russian women in Goa, Delhi and Uttarakhand. However, the police have rejected his claim. Police say that investigation was conducted from Delhi to Uttarakhand, in which this thing has been proved wrong.
According to a report, Inspector General of Goa Police KR Chaurasia made it clear that Leonov made this statement only to make headlines and create sensation. He said, ‘The accused is mentally unstable. Investigation has revealed that he has been involved in only two murders, the rest of the claims are baseless.
According to police officials, the women whose names were given by Leonov were thoroughly investigated. Investigation found that most of the women are safe or have left India. Only in one case was it confirmed that the accused knew the deceased.
Leonov had also claimed that he had killed eight women in Goa itself. On this the police clearly said that in the investigation so far no evidence of any such incident has been found. Police say that the accused knew many Russian women, as Russian citizens living in India usually know each other.
It is being told that Alexey Leonov was arrested after the murder of 37-year-old Russian woman Elena Kasathanova in Arambol area of Goa. Elena’s body was recovered from her rented house. During the investigation of the same case, the police also came to know about another murder, in which Russian woman Elena Vanieva lost her life. Elena was a close friend of both of them.
During police interrogation, the accused told that he has been living in India for the last three years. He described himself as a software engineer and also said that he sometimes works in a therapy center and performs on stage with a Russian dance group.
At present, Goa Police is investigating both the murder cases in depth. Officials say that further legal action will be taken after the investigation of all aspects is completed.
