New Delhi/Ghaziabad: Former Union Minister Vijay Goel has welcomed the comments made during the ongoing hearing related to stray dogs in the Supreme Court. Vijay Goyal has been raising his voice and campaigning for a long time regarding the problem of stray dogs across the country and the continuous attacks on people by stray dogs.
Vijay Goyal is continuously organizing meetings with residents in various areas of Delhi NCR. Along with this, efforts are being made to give momentum to the movement by going to different states of the country.
Vijay Goyal said, this is an important step towards their long-running movement and the Supreme Court has accepted their argument that if any child or elderly person dies or gets injured due to the attack of stray dogs, then the responsibility of the concerned governments and those who feed dogs in public places will also be responsible. The court has also raised a serious question as to why heavy compensation should not be imposed on those governments which have not taken any concrete action on the problem of stray dogs for years.
Goyal welcomed Supreme Court’s comments: Vijay Goyal is continuously getting support from the general public in the movement against stray dogs. Goyal said that the Supreme Court has given clear instructions that stray dogs should not be removed from public premises and left there again, but despite this, the dogs caught by the Municipal Corporation are being released again at the same place. He alleged that when municipal teams come to catch dogs, so-called dog lovers stop them.
Not a single dog shelter was constructed in Delhi: He also said that at the places marked by the Delhi Municipal Corporation for feeding dogs, no notice board has been installed till now, nor has any watchman been arranged there, due to which a situation of fights arises every day. Goyal expressed concern that not a single dog shelter has been constructed in Delhi so far, so where will the biting or aggressive dogs be kept. For this reason they are caught and then left at the same place.
Demand for FIR against those who feed stray dogs: He also said that the work of microchipping has not been started by the Municipal Corporation, although a decision in this regard had been taken three months ago. He demanded that such gates should be installed in the parks to prevent the entry of stray dogs, so that the safety of children and the elderly is ensured. Goyal appealed to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to file FIRs against those feeding stray dogs on the streets, as the Supreme Court guidelines are now clear that food cannot be given to dogs on public roads.
He told that his organization ‘Lok Abhiyan’ one soon Helpline number – 9220-606060 Is going to be issued, on which people will be able to lodge complaints against those who violate the rules. Goyal said that he himself is a petitioner in the Supreme Court in this case. He also said that he is constantly being threatened, abused and used abusive language on social media. He said, “These people neither want to adopt dogs in their homes nor want to take responsibility for them, but they do not lag behind in abusing me. My aim is only to save the lives of children and citizens of the society.”
