Dehradun: The process of collecting green cess from vehicles coming from other states in Uttarakhand may take time to get off the ground. Actually, the Transport Department had said to start the process of collecting green cess from December 1. But the software prepared for green cess collection has not yet been integrated with the vehicle data base of NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) and the Government of India. In such a situation, the process of collecting green cess from vehicles coming from other states in Uttarakhand state will not start from December 1. However, it is expected that the process of green cess collection may start from the second week of December.
Every year lakhs of vehicles come to Uttarakhand state from other states. Due to which there is additional burden of pollution on the environment of the state. There is also pressure on the road. In view of this, the state government has decided to collect green cess from vehicles coming to Uttarakhand from other states.
In fact, at the beginning of the year 2024, the Uttarakhand government had issued a notification regarding collecting green cess from vehicles of other states. But till now this process has not been implemented in the state. In such a situation, it is expected that the process of collecting green cess will be started this month itself.
At the same time, Joint Transport Commissioner of Transport Department, Sanat Kumar Singh said that green cess collection will be done through ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). For the first time, a project for collection through ANPR has been prepared in Uttarakhand, because at present tax or cess is not being collected anywhere through ANPR, rather collection is being done through Fast Tag. However, under the arrangement made by the Transport Department, money will be deducted from the Fast Tag Wallet through ANPR. 150 NPR cameras have been installed at 37 places across the state. In such a situation, software has also been prepared for green cess collection through NPR cameras.
Also said that in such a situation, the software has to be integrated with the vehicles database of Government of India and NPCI, the work of which is going on at present. However, the target was set that this work would be completed in the month of December and the process of green cess collection would be started. Also told that the Transport Department had earlier prepared strategies for green cess collection from December 1 itself. But, at present it is likely to take about 10 to 12 more days. Therefore, the process of green cess collection will be started this month itself. The team of Transport Department was also sent to Delhi to complete the integration process as soon as possible.
