Chennai. Life has been affected due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu due to Cyclone Ditvah. Many parts of Bihar state, including Kallakurichi, Tirukkoilur, Manalurpettai, Tirupalapandal, Chennai and adjoining districts (Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram) are experiencing continuous heavy rain and squall winds.
Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in low-lying areas. Due to this, movement and traffic has been affected. Schools and colleges have been closed in many districts due to heavy rains and waterlogging. Both schools and colleges have been closed in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram. Chengalpattu (colleges remained open), Ranipet (Arakkonam and Nemili taluks), Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, and Villupuram. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Nilgiris, Erode and Coimbatore. Rains are likely to continue due to the activity of north-east monsoon and low pressure in the coastal areas. People have been advised to remain alert, not to undertake unnecessary travel and follow the instructions of the Meteorological Department.
