New Delhi. On Friday, India signed an agreement to formally join the ‘Pax Silica’ alliance at the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi. With this, the number of member countries in this important strategic alliance of America has now increased to 10. Experts say that after ‘Quad’, this new alliance may increase the concerns of China, because till now it has dominated in this region.
What is Pax Silica Alliance?
Pax Silica is the leading collaboration between partner countries to advance AI and supply chain security. It started during a conference in Washington on December 12 last year. This agreement furthers the economic security consensus among the partner countries. Here the word Pax means peace, stability and prosperity. Jacob Helberg, Under Secretary for Economic Affairs in America, said that in the 20th century the world ran on oil and steel. But in the 21st century, the world runs on computers, and minerals like lithium and cobalt are necessary to make that computer. Pax Silica aims to create a common plan with trusted countries to build the AI and technology of the future. This includes energy, essential minerals, hi-tech factories and AI models.
What is joint declaration?
The Pax Silica declaration states that we agree to work together for shared prosperity, technological progress and economic security. We believe that reliable supply chains and secure AI systems are essential to the economy of the future. Countries included in Pax Silica
The countries that signed this agreement before India include Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and UK. Signatory countries include Canada, the European Union, the Netherlands, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Taiwan.
Purpose of Pax Silica
The biggest objective of Pax Silica is to reduce complete dependence on any one country. This means that countries should not be overly dependent on any one country for materials, technology or products, so that they cannot be pressured or exploited in global trade. Without naming names, this alliance is an attempt to counter the challenge of China and is a big long-term plan to secure the supply chain, especially of rare earth metals.
