IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal shot himself with a revolver. He had retired from the post of Inspector General (IG). After the incident, he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. The bullet hit him near his chest, causing damage to his liver. Doctors immediately performed surgery, and he is currently under observation. Police have also recovered a suicide note from the spot, which mentions the financial loss due to online fraud. This 12-page suicide note was also addressed to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab. The police are currently investigating the exact reasons for the suicide attempt.

In his 12-page suicide note written to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, retired IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal wrote that he had become a victim of a major cyber fraud. He had recently joined an IPS WhatsApp group. In this group, he got information about an investment scheme, in which huge profits were promised. Caught in this trap, he invested Rs 8 crore. This amount included his retirement fund as well as money borrowed from relatives, friends and acquaintances. Later he realized that he had fallen into the trap of an online fraud syndicate. After not being able to return the money of his relatives and friends, breaking their trust and suffering huge financial losses, he could not bear the mental pressure due to financial constraints and shot himself.
