The 64-year-old Conservative leader, who is known for her criticism of China, secured 237 votes in the 465-member House and won a majority. She will formally assume office after meeting Japanese Emperor Naruhito. Takaichi is going to become the fifth Prime Minister of Japan. She will replace Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Takaichi’s victory in Japan is considered very important because till now men are holding almost all the important positions in the country.
