Know where Mother Ganga will be seen after the doors are closed, know why this place is special

Dehradun: The closure of Chardham kapat is going to start from today. In this series, the doors of Gangotri Dham will be closed first today. The doors of Gangotri Dham are closed on the occasion of Annakoot festival. The doors of Gangotri Dham will close at 11.26 am today. For which all preparations have been made.

After the closure of the doors of Gangotri Dham, the idol of Mother Ganga will leave for winter stay in Mukhba village along with Doli Bhogmurthy, army band and local musical instruments. On the night of 22nd October, Doli will rest for the night at Markadenya temple situated about two km before Mukhba village. After that, the next day on the afternoon of 23rd October, the idol of Mother Ganga will reach Doli Mukhba village. In Mukhba village, the Bhogmurti of Mother Ganga will be installed in the temple as per the rituals for 6 months during winter. After this, for 6 months of winter season, Mother Ganga will be seen in her winter stay in Mukhba village only.

Religious beliefs of Mukhba: Mukhba has great religious beliefs. According to religious beliefs about the winter migration place of Mother Ganga, worshiping Mother Ganga brings happiness and peace in life. It is believed that those who come to this temple and pray with devotion are blessed with family happiness and prosperity. This tradition has been going on for centuries that after the doors of Gangotri are closed, Ganga Aarti and special worship is performed at Mukhba.

Where is Mukhba: Mukhba is located in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It is situated on the banks of Bhagirathi river. Its height is about 8000 feet above sea level. The distance of Mukhba from Uttarkashi district headquarters is about 80 kilometers. Surrounded by snow covered hills on all sides, the beauty of Mukhba is worth seeing. This place is not only famous for religious tourism, there is also immense potential for natural tourism here.

How to reach Mukhba Temple: To reach Mukhba one has to reach Uttarakhand. There are road, rail and air routes to reach Uttarakhand. By air you reach Jolly Grant Airport near Rishikesh. Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun can be reached by rail. From Rishikesh, Mukhwa can be reached via Uttarkashi, Harsil. The distance from Delhi to Mukhba is about 480 km.

There was enthusiasm among the devotees regarding Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham: Despite all these obstacles, by October 21, 2025, the number of devotees visiting Yamunotri Dham reached 6,44,366. In 21 days of October alone, 40,227 devotees reached Yamunotri Dham. The number of pilgrims reaching Gangotri Dham also increased to 7,57,762. 53,949 devotees have reached Gangotri Dham in 21 days of October.
