Liquorice for sore throat and cough, know the right way to take it

Liquorice Winter season has arrived and with the increase in cold, sore throat, persistent cough, phlegm and hoarseness have become a common problem. In Ayurveda, liquorice is said to be very beneficial in removing these problems.

Mulethi, rich in medicinal properties, not only provides relief from dry cough but also from cough with mucus. The Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India states that the most effective and safe home remedy in winter is Mulethi, which is also called Yashtimadhu in Ayurveda. For centuries, liquorice has been considered the ‘best friend of the throat and lungs’ in Ayurveda.

How does liquorice benefit?

Liquorice contains an element called glycyrrhizin, which reduces swelling of the throat, thins out mucus and gives instant relief from cough. Besides, it is also helpful in strengthening the digestive system, which keeps away problems like indigestion, gas, acidity and constipation. Having good digestion also increases immunity and cures cold and cough quickly.

Mulethi provides instant relief from persistent dry and mucus-filled cough, throat irritation, soreness and hoarseness. Beneficial in stomach acidity, gas, indigestion and ulcers and helpful in increasing immunity. It removes mouth ulcers.

How to consume liquorice in throat problem

The method of using liquorice is also easy. Soak a small stick of liquorice in water overnight, chew it in the morning and drink the water. Take liquorice powder with honey, it provides instant relief from cough. Liquorice, ginger and basil tea are also beneficial. Putting a liquorice stick in the mouth and sucking it also provides relief from cough.

Consuming a small amount of liquorice daily is an effective way to prevent cold and cough. However, people suffering from high blood pressure or any kind of allergy should consult a doctor.
