‘Modi hai toh mumkin hai’: Six decades old dream became reality in 900 days: Ashwini Vaishnav

Ahmedabad Describing this historic day as a milestone for India, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the dream that was seen in the semiconductor sector for the last six decades has come true today due to the determination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The journey from foundation to production in just 900 days embodies the mantra of ‘Modi hai to mumkin hai’. He said that semiconductor is a foundational industry. Chips are essential for every modern device like mobiles, laptops and servers. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, electronics manufacturing in India has increased six times and exports eight times in the last decade. Now under ‘Semiconductor 2.0’, India will develop not only chip design but the entire ecosystem including manufacturing, machinery, chemicals and gas in the country. Today, students from more than 315 universities of the country are active in chip design, which is an indication of the strong foundation of developed India.

Plant becomes symbol of India-US relations
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore described the occasion as a symbol of strong India-US relations. He said that this plant is not just a factory, but the future of coordination of American technology and India’s production capacity. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has emerged as a safe and reliable option for the global semiconductor supply chain. He especially praised the semiconductor projects being developed from Sanand to Dholra in Gujarat and said that this model is inspiring for other countries and investors as well. American companies are looking at the prospects of Gujarat in a positive light.

‘This is not an inauguration, it’s an immortal moment in history’ – Micron CEO
Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said in an emotional tone that this is not just an inauguration, but an immortal moment in history. Referring to the inspiration he received from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during his student days, he said that what once seemed impossible has come true today in the land of Sanand. Praising the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data is like the heart and memory and storage are essential for data. This Micron plant will produce millions of chips every year to meet global needs. He also informed that 100 percent water re-use and high standards of sustainability are being followed in the plant. He proudly said, “When people used to ask whether a world class semiconductor facility can be built in India? My answer is – Yes, it is possible!”

Cutting-edge production for the AI era
This mega plant of Micron will manufacture modern storage and memory devices like SSD (Solid State Drive), DRAM and NAND. Strong memory support is essential for AI based systems, hence this production will play an important role globally. The plant is home to one of the world’s largest and ultra-clean cleanroom facilities, where chip packaging is carried out in an environment purer than an operating theatre.

New example of employment and inclusion
At present 2000 employees are employed in the plant, which will increase to more than 5000 direct employment in the coming time. The special thing is that disabled citizens have also been given equal opportunities as operators and technicians. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gujarat Government’s Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia, state cabinet members, MPs and MLAs, Chief Secretary M.K. Many dignitaries including Das and Science and Technology Secretary P. Bharathi were present. India has now emerged strongly on the global semiconductor map and this journey that started from Sanand is writing a new story for the technological future of developed India.
