Bhopal. Just before the budget session of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Mohan Government has raised a new loan of Rs 5 thousand crore from the market. This is the second big loan taken in the last one week. Earlier on February 4, the government had taken a loan of Rs 5300 crore. The opposition has attacked the state government over the continuously increasing debt in the state. Former CM Kamal Nath has targeted Mohan government by tweeting on social media platform X. He alleged that BJP is drowning the state in the burden of debt.
While tweeting on Kamal Nath How quickly the BJP government has drowned Madhya Pradesh in the quagmire of debt can be gauged from the fact that in 2007, Madhya Pradesh had a debt of Rs 52,000 crore, which has increased almost ten times and has crossed the limit of Rs 5,00,000 crore.
The BJP government is squandering the public treasury on its wasteful expenditure and event gambling. Common people are dying by drinking poison in cough syrup and sometimes by drinking poisonous water and the government treasury is being spent on corruption instead of fulfilling basic needs. I have cautioned earlier also and repeat once again that the Madhya Pradesh government should think seriously about its fiscal position and need to improve it in the public interest.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar also targeted
Umang Singhar tweeted on Borrowing of Rs 67,300 crore so far in the current financial year and borrowing taken 36 times raises serious questions on the financial condition of the state.
Recently released RBI report has also revealed the real economic picture of the state. Madhya Pradesh alone accounts for about 5% of the total debt of the country. This situation is worrying and demands a rethink on the financial direction of the government. The government should clarify what is the concrete financial roadmap for this huge borrowing? In the upcoming budget session, detailed answers will be sought from the government on increasing debt, increasing interest burden and transparency of financial management. Madhya Pradesh does not need mountains of debt, but a strong, accountable and visionary economic policy.
